I'll third that, just so you know it's not a fluke. And even though I'm sure it's a server-side problem, I'm using IE7 on XP.

    Fixed for now.

Turns out the Forum probably cant use GMail because google reqiures SSL. Sending mail from a different domain until I figure something else out.

    Account pictures!

Go to your account tab and check the sidebar for "Account Picture" something something. You can upload your icon and a larger account pic. I suggest cropping and resizing first (32X32 for the icon and 280 X280 for the account pic) because the auto resize looks like crap.

    Enjoy.

-BBCode insert Bar in the post box

-Yellow flashy effect when you post

Let me know if anything breaks.

There seems to be a problem with the resizing for the icons. Icons like mine that are actually 32x32 work fine, but those that are bigger (like Rerun's for example) are vertically to big.

That must be browser-specific. They're all 32x32 for me.

When I close all forum windows/tabs, the next time I go to the forum, I have to log in again. Yes, I've checked the "remember me" box. Happening in both Safari and Firefox. This seems to be recent - earlier the forum would remember my login from session to session. Anyone else seeing this?

It was a bug in a new plugin that would allow me to host the user pics. I deactivated it.

Well that's weird. I sign in, look at some forums, fine. I close my browser window, open a new one, go to the forum, and I land at the discussions page, which says I'm not logged in. Then I click on a discussion link, and I go to the top of the discussion, but I'm logged in again. I'm confused.

OK, this is stupid, but can we get a link on the sidebar or header pointing back at the main HE page? I keep having to run through my bookmarks or history to get back to the main page, and my desperate gurgly screams of frustration are making the other cubicle dwellers around me cry like the pansies they are.

A true Fancy Bastard would have HijiNKS Ensue set as his browser's homepage. That way, whenever you open up a tab, you can be greeted with a topical gay joke, rascist joke, tech joke, game joke, or geek joke (or combination of those) every time.

OK.. had a crazy idea. Can we add a field in the profiles listing peoples locations, and then have those appear on a map (if people opt in)? it would be interesting to see if there are any more Milwaukee FB's and such. The fiance and I are getting married in Denver in about a year, and it may be interesting to have a get together out there if anyone is close.. etc...

I'll check some things out. I'm usually pretty good at figuring these things and I have a web server to host if necessary.

So, is this going to be implemented? I personally would enjoy knowing map-wise where other FBs are in relation to one another.

I might actually persuaded to fly out to an FB get together, if it was for more than one day and elaborate enough. Hell, if I had enough space (I don't) I would host one. Weirdly enough, I've been spending all day today thinking up ideas for geek parties, and then sighing deeply because my local friends aren't nearly geeky enough. We really need a HEX, us folks are just too awesome to not be awesome in one place.

As a moderator, it'd be nice if I could split threads. For example, the workout music thread has a new tangent of Fancy Bastard-Approved-and-Endorsed Exercises that Are Guaranteed to Keep You At the Top of Your Geeky Game®™©. I'd like to be able to take the existing off-topic comments and move them into an entirely new thread.

Looks like Google Latitude might be up for job, but it's just rolling out. I'm not sure yet if that's something we could integrate into the forum - maybe if people had a field listing their gName. I'll have to investigate a little. Even if we went with the Google Maps/Google Earth APIs I think that side should be pretty easy. It's culling data from the forum that might be tricky.

I'm actually getting this constantly and I know that all other cookies work on my computer just fine. Could be on my end, but I've never been able to stay logged in even if I click the 'remember me' button.

Yeah I've had to log in twice since the first complaint of this problem was made. I'm assuming this goes for everyone.

I've never had to log in twice, but I do get logged out from time to time. Any of you that have had this problem: do you think it could be from changing IP addresses? It seems more likely to happen to me when I'm changing from my home computer to work computer (and vice versa).

I constantly have to login in everytime I go here, sometimes twice. I use Firefox 3.0.8

Anyway, I suggest a Word games section! Basically a place to do some forum games that posters can play. Examples

Two Words game. First person post two words, next person posts the first two words that pop in their head, so on, and so on. Consider it a psychological test to see where your mind randomly goes.
Seven Word Story. Each poster tells seven words of a story, and have to pick up the story from where the last poster leaves off. By the time a page or two is full, the story gets REALLY random (and fun).
Q&A. First poster posts a random question, next person has to give them a semi-random answer and then asks a question of their own. It can lead to a very strange or disturbing chain of questions
A-Z: Themed. Basically it's a challenge to name something in alphabetical order based on a theme. For instance, if the theme was Star Trek:
    Poster 1: Alpha Quadrant
    Poster 2: Benzite
    Poster 3: Cardassian
    Poster 4: Darmok!

If you guys aren't too sure about it, I could make one of these topics in the General Discussion, and if it's a hit, we can expand later.

I've had a similar idea before, but instead I would just go with a "writing" section. A lot of the FBs are truly impressive writers and I'd be interested in a place to collect all that talent. I'm a bit nervous about a specific word game section, because this forum has never been very... forumy, and I mean that in a good way. I don't know if that would send the wrong message to potential members, but I'd certainly be interested in some sort of group writing exercise in thread format, say a story continued by different FBs in sections of a few paragraphs.

Fair enough, I'll try putting two different topics in the General Discussion. One that's a traditional word game (A-Z themed), and the second that will be One Paragraph Story. We'll see what happens.
