Movies you hate to love.
  • And now to round out our "shame collection", films we never admit to liking. For me I think that the Costner trifecta of Dances with Wolves, Waterworld, and The Postman are pretty awesome, they get so much crap but I don't care, I love them to pieces. I also have a secret Kryptonite movie that makes me weep like a friggin' baby, but I think its too soon to reveal such a powerful weapon, don't you?

...I'm gonna go turn in my Man Card.

  • FerrosFerros July 2008

@ Eddie oh man c'mon Weird Science got me interested in computers. For purely scientific reasons i swear! I do love any early to mid 80's movie involving computers and their apparent supernatural powers. Tron, War Games and the like.

does barry manilow know that you raided his wardrobe?

Ghostbusters II. Nobody's heart was completely in it but I still watch it a few times a year.
Superman Returns. I fully acknowledge the movie went on for too long but I still enjoyed it.

Batman and Robin on the Spanish channel was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. That's still one of the worst movies of all time but the guy they got to dub over Arnold was priceless. He was high pitched and fast speaking. Classic.

i still sat thru batman and robin after the tragedy that is batman forever. god that film is stupid, edward nigma....

i <3 batman tho. first 2 films and batman begins are amazing. tho it took my friends a while 2 calm me down after the guy who killed bruce's parents died and then they announced that there was the joker. i was MADDDDDD!!!<br />xxx

I used to be able to watch the Burton Batman's as guilty pleasures but as my comic book geekiness deepens I just can't stand the complete lack of respect for the characters in both films.

I forgot to mention the Lost Boys. No matter how fucking awful that film is, I absulutely love it; if anything, because I quoted a line from it in my final English paper, and it brought me from a D to a B.

  • RerunRerun July 2008

Lost Boys is awesome, how could you hate Breakfast Club? Judd Nelson is the man...

I fucking love Waterworld and have gotten into several extensive arguments with friends about it. I also have a Waterworld poster that I hung in my dorm room in college just to piss off a classmate who refuses to acknowledge its existence.

I watch Waterworld every time it comes on though I think its cinematic diarrhea.

Would you say it's "like a turd that won't flush"?

Love Actually and Moulin Rouge should be enough to revoke my man card. Others on the shame list include Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and the two Matrix sequels.

  • FerrosFerros July 2008

Oh man, The Spirits Within really? I can totally dig on Advent Children but Spirits Within didn't even have chocobos.

  • Mike+BradyMike Brady July 2008

Yeah, Advent Children isn't a shame movie though. At least I don't think so. People panned Spirits Within mostly because it didn't feel enough like "Final Fantasy" to them. Which I guess is fair considering the title, but I appreciate it for what it was. I also loved FF VIII - which so many people say they hate - because it had an enjoyable story and brilliant cutscenes. The CG was years ahead of its time. Of course I'm also the (apparently only) guy that enjoyed the half-hour cutscenes in Xenosaga. I'm a sucker for a story.

  • Mike+BradyMike Brady July 2008

Oh so my kryptonite movie would have to be Field of Dreams. Now matter how many times I watch that movie I always get choked up at either the scene where the girl's choking on the hot dog or the very end - and usually both. I always feel stupid about it later. Now you know my weakness.

  • FerrosFerros July 2008

Have you seen Stick it, Denise? The spiritual successor to Bring It On. Who knew the world of Gymnastics could be so amazing. I can also give a thorough thumbs up to D.E.B.S. School girl secret agents and hot lesbian action, kinda.

oh me effin gee i love both of those mortal kombat movies! i saw the second one in the theater when i was sixth grade. i showered and like, gelled my hair for the event.

  • AaronAaron July 2008

There are a lot of horror movies and sequels that are shit but I can't help but sit through some of them being: Friday the 13th (any of them, they're all bad), A Nightmare on Elm Street 2-6, The Burning, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3&4, Child's Play 2&3, My Bloody Valentine, Critters (the entire series), Silent Night Deadly Night 1 &2, Sleepaway Camp (entire series), and there are plenty more but I'm just going off the top of my head.

  • Jonny+AceJonny Ace July 2008

i'm a movie snob, so i generally don't even like movies everyone else does, but i still have some shame movies:

Matrix sequels: i really liked them, as i enjoyed watching the path of Neo, everything else was gravy. (plus the swarm of sentinels was awesome looking)

The Last Dragon: Who's the Master of Harlem? (bonus points for those who can answer that question)

American Pie movies: yeah have nothing to say for this one.
