If I had the cash, I'd be broke now :P, but I'm seriously considering Castle Crashers. Holy Lord that looks fun

Is it poor form to consider Braid pretentious arty crap? I am seriously looking forward to Castle Crashers though and i enjoyed to demo of pub games so i'll probably end up buying that because i know i'll be getting Fable 2.

No it's not, I really haven't seen much past that either...

Braid's art style is meh but the game mechanics are great.
If you play past the demo it expands with things like the levels that go forward when you walk left to right and reverse when you walk right to left.
It's a nice little puzzler, probably not worth 1200 points but nice anyway.

Fable 2 pub games is the one pissing me off. Obviously it's Fable 2 so I had to buy it but the spinner game is pointless and the other 2 just seem to be an exercise in minimising losses rather than winning anything.
I want to play them to win the special items, like special dog moves, but at this rate I'm going to be buggered by debt collectors the second I start the game in October.

    BTW

    1200 points = $15.00 = £8.05
    1200 points = £10.20 = $19.00

Why do the Brits always get screwed over when it comes to buying video games.

My only problem with Braid is the art. I wouldn't go so far as to call it "pretentious arty crap" as Ferros put it, but there were a number of times where I couldn't see the hints because of 1)all the trippy graphics, and 2)it was just too damned small. Mind-bender puzzle games have always been a favorite of mine, so Braid's "ah-ha!" moments more than make up for it for me. Usually I think that demos/trials give you a very fair taste of what to expect in the game, but in this case a lot more is needed. If I hadn't read deeper descriptions of the full version online, I probably would have passed it up. As it is though, I think it's well worth the cost of a movie and popcorn.

Completely agree about Pub Games on all counts. I know I'll be buying Fable, so I want more stuff. The games seem a little too much like...well, real gambling. I haven't unlocked any other games past the original three, but of those the Tower card game is the only one that seems like it might possibly be winnable using some strategy as opposed to pure luck. I would roughly compare the games as far as winnability and strategy potential are concerned as: cards = blackjack, dice = roulette (even though it might seem at first glance to be craps), and spinner = slots.

As for the XBL points, could the rates have been put into effect when the dollar/pound ratio was a lot different, and it just never changed? Just a guess on that one.

There are items like weapons and furniture for your house, potions, clothing, hair styles and tattoos if i remember correctly.

  • SeanSean August 2008

Plus a few dog tricks. Honestly, that's what I am really going after.

  • RerunRerun August 2008

But you get them for free with the game, why bother purchasing them now?

You get the games but not the bonus items i'm pretty sure.

  • SeanSean August 2008

Yeah, that's how I understand it. In the pub games, you can get extra items that aren't in the regular game, plus you'll start Fable II with whatever gold you've earned gambling.

    Or the billions you've lost...

My problem with live arcade is most of the games are either crap or so expensive that the amount of play time isnt worth the money.

  • SeanSean October 2008

As I said above, I tend to use the yardstick of "movie and popcorn". You're going to spend roughly $15 for a trip to the theater, so would you get more or less entertainment out of a particular XBL game than you would by going to the movies? Looking at it in those terms makes the decision a lot clearer for me.

  • RerunRerun October 2008

The next installment of the Penny Arcade game has gone gold, should be here soonish. I for one am beyond excited. By the way, did anyone actually get that achievement that required beating the final boss without using any health restores and without anyone in the party dying? I tried but eventually just gave up...

Nope. I treat most of my party as just a giant meat shield.

Last time I went to a theater it was like $7 for a ticket (years ago) and I thought it was a huge ripoff then. I might be a cheap ass but $15 for 3-4 hr long game that ill probably only play once is too much.

There are some great games that I have bought though Geometry Wars2, Marble blast, Puzzle Quest, and some others

The only $15 game ive bought was Braid and probably ever will unless some thing really good comes out.
