    Me neither... =(

  • lardboylardboy October 2008

Not just being poor, I quite like eating and sleeping which will have to go if I'm going to fit in fable 2, fallout 3 and LBP.

BTW the whole LBP recall thing is bullshit if you don't want to hear the song don't buy the game. If the game was specifically attacking somebody that would be different.

There was Muslim stuff in a Zelda game once. I don't remember what they ended up doing.

As I understand it, the phrases weren't used in an offensive manner. In fact, I believe that the artist responsible for the song is himself a devout Muslim. And Media Molecule had a patch ready to remove the song on day one, so this recall seems a bit extreme. Sony said they did it to protect those who didn't have access to an internet connection. That's all well and good, but if your PS3 isn't online why the hell are you playing LittleBigPlanet? Sure there's stuff you can do by yourself but internet access is really core to the experience. I was fortunate enough to have played the beta for a couple weeks, so I can speak from experience. There really isn't much to the game offline. In fact if you try to play without an internet connection you get about sixteen prompts saying "Dude, really? Are you sure you want to play offline? What the hell are you doing? Why don't you come back when you're a part of the 21st century? This is your last chance. Seriously, this is going to suck."

I'm half-joking. The Story Mode levels are actually extremely well made and quite fun (and informative!), but what makes the game is seeing all the amazingly cool stuff that people put together using these simple tools.

By pulling these discs, what they're really saying is that they don't really understand Islam and they don't want to take a chance. After all, there are plenty of examples of games with material offensive to Christians (most games will offend someone on religious grounds if you're willing to ask enough people). But the games are published anyway. I can't really fault them for taking action - I don't know that much about Islam either and couldn't begin to guess how serious an offense this may be. But it hurts because I was looking forward to this game so much. Arg.

We gamers believe using images from our games in other media to be extremely offensive. When I was reading this forum in beta for the first time with several of my friends, I saw this image clear as day. I asked if they had seen it too, and they replied that they had. I request that Sharksplode Studios halt registration with this forum immediately, and release a patch for any users who have already logged on.

Got Farcry 2 yesterday still tryin to get Fallout 3 from gamefly. The online play for FC2 is great once you play it enough to get some decent weapons, but the campaign is really boring IMO, you basically spend most of your time driving to missions while being attacked by guys in jeeps every 20 seconds. How did they think that would be fun?

  • SeanSean October 2008

I'm currently at work, while my Fable avatar stands in the middle of Bowerstone Market collecting rent. :-)

  • MelkorMelkor October 2008

Picked up Fable 2 last week. It's fantastic!
As for the other multitude of games I wish to posess, I'll have to wait until I can find them used.

Far Cry 2 could've been a truly great game. Getting attacked every 20 seconds and having to take stupid side missions for malaria medicine ruined it for me and I've already traded it in. Also turned in Silent Hill:Homecoming (loved the game, hit a glitch that prevented me from advancing in the game for the second time, contacted Konami, they basically told me I was SOL since I'm currently don't have Xbox Live to download a patch because I don't have the right kind of internet for it right now, seriously considering never buying a Konami product again) and Soulcalibur IV (such a disappointment) and got Gears of Wars 2 and Fallout 3. I'm much happier with the new games I have than the ones I had before.

Similar story. Waited so long for Fallout 3, got it (finally) and found that I was extremely disappointed with it's oblivion-clone-ness. Traded it for credit which I used to purchase GoW2 (a game I had sworn not to get, but now own and love) and Mirrors Edge (a game I though looked terrible until I played the demo and couldn't get over how good it was)...

I got fallout 3 a couple days ago, its basically a huge Oblivion mod. Everything they said they fixed from Oblivion is still there. Its not Fallout but its a fun game in its own right despite the glaring flaws. Mirrors Edge looks awesome.

The best anecdote I can give for Mirror's Edge is that I got someone who doesn't play games at all (Save Rock Band with us), who has an interest in parkour, to play and love the demo. It felt intuitive to him, the same with Fable 2's combat. Great year for games :P

Gears 2 is definitely the best shooter I've played this year (best game personally so far is Fable II). I have to say though I don't mind how similar Fallout 3 is to Oblivion. I liked Oblivion but felt the story was horribly lacking and Fallout 3 gives me the story and type of setting I wanted out of Oblivion.

I'm thinking some Call of Duty: World at War.

Not so much for the initial game, but for the mode where you fight Nazi zombies in co-op. The fact that these zombies are Romeran rather than fast zombies makes it my choice over Left 4 Dead.

    Also:
    Penny Arcade Adventures 2
    Hells Highway
Red Alert 3 (which I bet will be terrible, if only we still had Westwood).

Not really applicable to games discussion just wanted to mention that i got into the beta for the new 360 dashboard and it has a solid thumbs up from me. I really like it. Especially installing games to the hard drive to shut the blasted drive up.

  • lardboylardboy November 2008

Is the NXE a higher res than the current dash? I've recently upgraded to HD and the current dash looks fairly nasty to me especially when compared to the PS3.

  • DuderDuder November 2008

All the feature look pretty cool but Im really just wanting to install games to shut the drive up. My drive is sometimes very loud, like angry buzzsaw loud.

Did you reconfigure your Visual settings? I don't think it's higher-res, no. I got into the beta yesterday, there aren't enough options for clothing and body shape and there is only one, seemingly asexual gender. I haven't bothered putting a game on the HD yet but it's going to be pretty memory heavy so you'll want a 120 GB drive...

I did reconfigure my settings I'm running at 1080P but there just seems to be a lot of jaggies on the edges of a lot of the dashboard elements.

Luckily I recently upgraded from a premium to an elite when the vidcard on the premium started screwing up so I have plenty of hardrive space and it seems to read faster than the old premium drive.

Handy chart at the bottom of this page - http://www.bingegamer.net/2008/so-how-much-time-are-you-saving-xbox-360-nxe-hard-drive-install-chart/

I'm particularly looking forward to ripping fallout 3 to clear up the constant hanging when the dvd drive chokes.

Some people are trying to be cooler than thou saying that saving a few seconds is nothing but even 5 secs is a long time when you're waiting for a level section to load.

I just rented Mirror Edge with the intention of adding it to my Christmas list. I usually takes a lot for me to want to buy a video game, and Mirrors Edge doesn't leave me disappointed.

    Wik,

    Spoilers (highlight to read)
Got pissed off when I accidentally shot a blue. Now I can't get the 'Test of Faith' achievement.

    Also wik,
I bought the soundtrack, and while the main theme song doesn't really evoke feelings of awesome, it does, for some reason, give me goosebumps when I hear it.

"This is the earth. And this is Pinky. You can tell the difference quite easily. One is a lump of inert matter hurtling blindly through the void. The other... is the earth." -The Brain

  • SeanSean December 2008

I had high hopes for Mirror's Edge, and for the most part I really enjoyed it. That is, right up until I hit a spot I couldn't get past. I don't think this qualifies as a spoiler, but just in case...

    Spoilers (highlight to read)
Right after the elevator chase at the very end of Chapter 2, where you have to leap off of the building and grab the flagpoles sticking out from the side of the next building.
Well, I tried for a good twenty minutes to hit that one jump. It seemed like I was going right through the target, so I tried overshooting it. No good. Undershot it...same result. I put it down and came back to it that night, after reading the GameFaqs walkthrough. Turns out I was doing it exactly right. Another half hour of fail/reload/fail/reload/fail. I rented the game from Hollywood video (free rental coupon), and kept it for a grand total of three days.

While some people might say that three days is not enough time to get to master a game, I would say that almost an hour of repeated attempts (there was a checkpoint right before it, so I would say 35 of those 50 minutes was dedicated to that single jump) would be more than enough to frustrate anybody to the point of giving up.

Gamefly is delivering BIA:HH to me as we speak. I just hope it takes that bad taste out of my mouth.

    My must-haves for 2008:

    Fable 2
    Dead Space
    Metal Gear Solid 4

    Rock Band 2
    Mass Effect
    Left 4 Dead

Thanks to a sale on Play-asia.com and having already finished Fable 2, Fallout 3, GoW2 and getting incredibly frustrated with Far Cry 2 i am now the proud owner of Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway. I was iffy on getting this game because WW2 is a bit overdone but for $30 who can resist that price!

  • FerrosFerros December 2008

Addendum to my previous post. Curse you Gearbox, BIA:HH is really good. I didn't want to like it because it's more WW2 but i do. Essentially it's just a puzzle game with Nazis. Using your fire teams to suppress and flank is fun as hell, could do without the solo bits but that is what it is. Love not even having to fire a shot, with good team management, planning and strategy you don't even need to fire your gun, get the AI to do all the work for you. Though i can't help but notice in the cutscenes their eyes looked messed up weird.
