Just watched. No spoilers yet, but I liked it. If I had to put my impressions into one sentence, it would be:
    Just like X-Files, season one.

Yeah I'd agree with the comparison to early X-Files. Which is, of course, not a bad thing. It's a little strange that nobody is concerned about all the giant text floating in the air, though; I spotted at least one clear fire code violation. It gets a "like" from me so far - if it shows it has a little stamina I think it could earn some love.

Yeah, photozzz summed it up pretty well there. And I also agree that it's not a bad thing. Yes, my wife and I had a full conversation about the letters, and how there must be massive magnetic fields constructed to keep them floating in mid-air, wondering if birds routinely fly into them, if Harvard acquired a grant to pay for theirs, etc. It also looks like

I am leaning towards "loved it". I'm sure everyone noticed the weird things on the images before each commercial break (Too lazy to use spoiler boxes, hence the extreme vagueness) and I had a feeling they were gonna ARG it up for this one as well. I'm resisting so far. My husband gave an interesting X-Files comparison (and he was a HUGE fan of the show, mind you). According to him "This is what The X-Files WISHED it was.) A glowing recommendation if I ever heard one.

I just hope this does not turn into another series where i have to dedicate a wall for collecting clues and huge pictures of the cast that I connect with string and crazy theories. I just want a show I can sit and watch for a change and not have to try and remember that ten second scene from four shows ago cause its terribly important to the narrative.

Im giving it a solid "liked enthusiastically" and "eagerly await next episode" with a side of "this might be great but I'm not throwing my hat in just yet.

I was really surprised how much I liked Joshua "Pacey" Jackson" I especially enjoyed the performance the father. Excellent casting all around. Production values were high and yes, it was very reminiscent of early X-Files. Im hopiong they stick with science and leave out the aliens.

    Spoilery Question:

I have to admit it has my interest, and I will be watching the next episode.

I'm listening to the podcast right now, and I think Josh has a point about Anna Torv's bad acting. At least in the melodramatic parts.

Also, I'm not particularly sure about

I think it was pretty bad acting all around. It falls into the category of "try this one on for size." I wish they'd pulled a Whedon and reshot the pilot after getting comfortable in their characters' skins.

Put me in the "it was awesome" camp. I can't believe I'm cheering on Pacey again after all these years. I don't think Anna Torv is a bad actress, I just find her character really boring. I hope they fix that soon. I wish I could listen to the podcasts around here. They always slow down my computer to the point of uselessness.

Yeah I'm with you on that. I re-watched the pilot and I thought her acting was fine but her dialogue was lacking. Pacey, on the other hand, isn't comfortable enough with "snarkiness" yet. His snide comments toward his dad were too forced to be funny.

I'm with Bill on this one. Torv and Jackson are unsteady, but I think *ALL* of the acting is a bit off. Not enough to ruin it, because the stories so far are just too enjoyable. Nobody seems comfortable, and that just takes me out of the suspension of disbelief, and reminds me that I'm watching actors playing roles. Hopefully the scripts will continue to be good enough to overlook the acting though.

I really enjoyed the show, but I was completely caught off guard with it. It came on, and I was expecting the new season of House. Everything seemed right... until those faces melted off. Once that happened, I knew "Ok, this is something else." That aside, I really enjoyed it. Joshua Jackson plays the "Douchebag-yet-Caring" role well ( I never watched Dawson's Creek, this might just be the same character." I thought it was well-written also. Just realistic enough to be believable, just far-fetched enough to get away with crazy shit. Overall, I'd say B+ maybe an A-. My one complaint? They moved House to 8 and didn't tell me.

i never watch a new show until it gets picked up 4 a 2nd season. so far i've found Fringe enjoyable, but luckily i haven't fallen in love with it. if i had it would already be canceled. i'm willing to give it a try, but i'm not going to put much energy into it.

Right, see I was thinking along those lines, but when you watch the scene where Dr. Walter is explaining to her his theory about the appearances, the background music, camera work, and entire tone seems like he's revealing some shocking explanation, but his idea just doesn't make sense.

Just to clarify, JJ has stated that Baldy has appeared in every episode so far. Something for the season one DVD buyers to check out.

I'm a bit worried that the show is sticking to hard to the "House" formula:

Fringe- Random paranormal thing happens to random guy
House- Random Medical thing happens to random guy
F- FBI calls in the Fringe team because they are the only ones that can solve the case
H- Patient goes to see House because he's the only one that can solve the case
F- The team does some detective work, Walter suggests something crazy, Pacey doesnt believe it
H- The team does some detective work/ tests, House does something crazy, patient isn't quite saved
F- Walter remembers that he invented the thing that's killing whoever 20 years ago and develops an unorthodox but genius solution
H- Something clicks in House's head and he develops and unorthodox but genius solution
F- The day is saved (for now) but there is still unexplained danger out there, we get a glimpse of the over all story arch but no one experiences any real growth
H- The patient is saved but House is still an asshole, we get a glimpse of the over all story arch but no one experiences any real growth
F- An hour entertained but not engaged or enthralled
H- I think you get the idea.
