Secretary for Geek Affairs

So, Paul and Storm have decided to have a 64 person tournament (some real people, some fictional) to decide who should be the Secretary for Geek Affairs, if such an office were created. Voting starts Monday, but the bracket is available now at http://www.paulandstorm.com/archives/geek-madness/.

Any thoughts? Coulton fans have a lot of overlap with Paul and Storm fans (P+S tour with him a lot), so I'm saddened that Bill Nye is in the same grouping as him. Wil Wheaton vs. Bruce Campbell is a brutal first round matchup, but I have to think that Wheaton advances to face Wesley Crusher in the second round. I think Whedon should have made it there somewhere, and if not for Paul's noted crush on Felicia Day, perhaps he would have taken her place.

My Reasonable 8: Hodgman, Weird Al, Hawking, Jamie & Adam from Mythbusters, Tom Servo & Crow T. Robot, Coulton, Jobs (even though I don't worship at the Cult of Apple), and in an upset Mr. Peabody (from Rocky and Bullwinkle).

Interesting! Mr. Peabody faces some brutal competition in the first two rounds: Linus Torvalds and the winner of Simon Pegg vs. Peter Parker. Parker has the edge but if Pegg pulls through then things could get very interesting. This requires more thought than I can provide at this hour.

    Stan Effin' Lee.

I dont see Stephen Fry on that board, and it makes me sad, hes more qualified than some of the people on that list (I'm looking at you Ben Stein with your comfortable shoes)

My Reasonable 8 has John Hodgman vs. Weird Al, Wil Wheaton vs. the Mythbusters (after a fierce showdown with Spock), Seth MacFarlane vs. JoCo, Steve Jobs vs. Randall Munroe.

ETA: I should make it clear that these are not necessarily who I'd vote for, just who I think will win.

I vote for George W Bush. As soon as that fucker starts to realize what the internet is, it's his, and he won't give it back. He'll just be another twelve year old on the web to all of us, but he'll be a very important twelve year old screaming NO at everyone who tries to take away his lolkitties. He's already demonstrated that he's capable of keeping power in the face of adversity, and I don't think there's a term limit on the position, so so long as no one develops a connection device fueled by burning stem cells he'll maintain our nets until he dies, tucked away in a storage unit in the pentagon with a 1gb ram desktop and a nurse.

There were changes made to the bracket, apparently. I know Whedon got added, among others.
Voting for the Bombadil region is up.

If you care about any of these people, make sure to vote!

The Do'Urden region either just closed or will close in half an hour, depending on what time zone they're in.
Results of that one include Linus Torvalds over Mr. Peabody, Simon Pegg over Peter Parker, Patton Oswalt over Paul Allen, Randall 'xkcd' Munroe in a close one over Kevin Smith, Kaylee Frye over The Professor, Tricia "Trillian" McMillan in another close one over Rick Moranis, Richard "rms" Stallman over Gadget, and Steve Jobs over the Cast of "Revenge of the Nerds".

Voted. I think everyone I like is winning. Glad Lehrer made it in.
