Since when is Tremors shitty? I love that movie!

Heart: Machine Girl. There is a lot of romance in that movie

um...Deep Blue Sea or Jaws 3-D. if you can round up the old school 3D glasses you can enjoy Jaw in shitty 3D. Also Tremors shouldn't be considered a shitty movie as it is a classic. I should suggest Yeti instead of Tremors. Yeti is a Sci-Fi Original so you should find it on DVD i'm sure you can download it somewhere.

I'm not sure how low you want to go, but there is a REALLY bad Troma film called Poultrygeist.

Guess I could have just said "there is a Troma film", "really bad" is just a redundant adjective when talking about Troma.

I dont consider Troma films as "bad movie night" fodder because they arent trying to be good. They KNOW how bad they are and they flaunt it. The real shitty movie experience is about delighting in a film that has no idea how bad it is.

Well for Fire we decided on watching Fire Serpent, starring Buffy's Nicholas Brendon aka Xander. The movie looks fantastic in the worst kind of ways, I can't wait to drop numerous Buffy references while watching it.

I found a new one, Eaten Alive. It's a Tobe Hooper movie from the late 70s. It's like a shitty remake of Psycho minus the mother cross dressing but adding a man & dog eating crocodile. There's also scythe killings and plenty of random boobage for no good reason. IFC Friday nights have been giving me a lot of fodder for shitty movie nights.

Punisher: War Zone. It is extremely terrible but watchable. They gave up trying to make a serious Punisher movie early on and just go batshit crazy for 100 minutes.

Also it has Whedon alum Julie Benz. She is absolutely terrible in it. Her accent had me in fits of laughter.

So right now, the plan is for me and my friends to do a screening of Undefeatable, starring Cynthia Rothrock. I've got an AVI of it, and we're trying to figure out a way to get it on a tv. My laptop has SVideo, but I don't have good speakers and my laptop would probably chug with an extra monitor.

Is there some way we could put the movie on a CD or DVD and run it through a DVD player? I really need to see some rape scenes intercut with bacon cooking.

I think windows will let you just burn an AVI onto a DVD with the stock software, but I'm not sure.



Similarly, I picked up a gem of a shitty Kung Fu movie (there are two different titles on the case, and a third in the actual movie) yesterday, and am considering streaming it for some FBs on Ustream.
Edit: Ustream is crap and I don't have a mac, and thusly no camtwist. Checking out a service called Livestream, which looks like the same thing but less utter shit.

Yes, it's a torrent site, but (1) it's private and (2) the movies on there are so bad the MPAA probably wants to forget they exist.
They're working on getting the IMDB bottom 100, to give you an idea of the quality of movies they have on there.
A warning, though: you need to have a decent ratio to avoid banning, and it's a bit harder to get a high ratio on it than public trackers. Not that I would know anything about that...

I mentioned this on twitter a few days ago, thought I'd post it here too. How would everyone feel about re-starting the Shitty Movie mailing list? I know Undefeatable is being held hostage by a former roommate (or hijacked by a rogue postal worker), but now that we're more organized I think it would work better. Anyone else up for it? Or does someone have a movie to share?

Now with those Xbox netflix viewing parties, we don't even have to have a physical piece of media anymore.

With the right crowd, it's an insane amount of fun. I'll update this post tomorrow with a bit more detail for you though.

I had mentioned this one in a question on the podcast long ago but thought I would mention again City Dragon. I showed it to a group of friends about a month ago and we still quote it frequently. It's the epitome of what a shitty movie should be as far as I'm concerned. I've yet to see anything come close to how terrible it is.

OK, so...Black Devil Doll. We had a group of seven fairly like-minded (read: sick in the head) people, and we all enjoyed the hell out of it! Full disclosure: we did watch the RiffTrax version of Dragon Wars before it, so we were already warmed up a bit and ready for whatever the movie could throw at us.

Our main question going into Black Devil Doll was whether or not it was aware of how ridiculous it was. JonnyAce commented that he has been in a number of student films that were terrible, but were treated seriously, making them just sad. BDD had no such pride. There were several references to other releases by Rotton Cotton, as well as the company itself. There was even a quick promo directly to the camera from one of the soon-to-be victims while she was (very briefly) wearing a Rotton Cotton shirt.

The movie was appropriately short, with a running time in the 80 minute range. This kept the frequent over-the-top insults, graphic to the point of being cartoonish violence, and sight gags from getting repeated or having too much time between horrified laughs. With a paper-thin plot of "Girl uses ouija board, recently executed black militant is summoned into PeeWee Herman doll, girl falls in love with doll, doll kills and THEN rapes girl's inexplicably unclothed friends", it needs to be a fast-moving film to keep your attention focused on the high shock-value and not the actual script.

Having said that, the script is by far the highlight of Black Devil Doll. Every line is more outrageous and hysterially cringe-worthy than the last. The fact that there is a SOUNDBOARD for this movie says it all. I'm curious about how much of the actual doll's dialogue was scripted, and how much was ad-lib. In any case though, it was able to very successfully ride that fine line between campy fun and just plain bad.

The bottom line, in my opinion, is that Black Devil Doll is a great movie for parties where adult beverages and people with a wild sense of humor are both in abundance.
