Welcome to the realm of the geeky/sarcastic/friendly/oddball! (did I leave anything out?)

Hey, one of the best parts of being an FB is being able to mock relentlessly. We can't actually handcuff Joel to the wall like in that comic, but if we could get him to stop watching Smallville, we would. And Heroes.

    Hi everyone.

I'm brand new to this forum, although I've been lurking about reading the comics for a while.
My name is Phe. I live in Melbourne, Australia. I'm female. I'm nearly 25 years old.

I spend my days looking after an 18 month old geek-in-training, but in my spare time I'm sort of a writer.
In my procrastinating time, I enjoy Battlestar Galactica, all things Whedon, Doctor Who & Torchwood, Studio Ghibli films, twittering, interneting and reading an ever-growing list of webcomics. I am also a bit of a film buff and music geek.

I discovered HE via overcompensating, which I discovered via Questionable Content which I discovered via xkcd which I discovered when someone posted one of Randall's Summer-Glau-orgasms onto a Buffy forum.

Awesome! I've noticed your presence in the last few days, welcome to the forum at the end of all worlds.
I hung out with Randall and Jeph Jacques last weekend for like a half-hour and mod'd balsa airplanes with them for like half an hour. It was awesome.

    Hi Fancy Bastards,

I may be new to the forum but I have been reading the comics for over a year. It looks like I am the old lady at 58 but I have been a geek since the days of Vincent Price, the original "The Day The Earth Stood Still", "Flash Gordon" and computer punch-cards! I was an original Trekkie. I became a fan of Dr. Who while living in England in the 80's, unfortunately, I had to wait until 2004 to see him in the US (except on some PBS stations). Thank you BBC America!

My name is Vicki and I live in Green Bay, WI...yes I am an avid Packer Fan! My daughter is the one who introduced me to HE and her tales of this forum finally got me to join. I love anything Joss Whedon, Dr. Who, Torchwood, Primeval, Fringe, Top Gear and much that is on the SciFi channel (except some of the really bad movies although I do enjoy Mystery Theatre-ing them). I am a reader of just about anything. My daughter and son keep trying to get me to try graphic novels and I'm sure I will give-in eventually and I will probably love them. After all I was a "Fantastic Four" fanatic growing-up.

I ramble...I am looking forward to being an official Fancy Bastard!!!!!!

We pass Web Comics around the Office, I was never the Hijinks regular but I've read a few and always found them funny. I've always fancied myself a writer, but had been in a slump up until recently. A friend of mine talked me into writing something funny so he'd have something to draw (this friend in a quest for insperado has been collaborating with nearly all of his creative friends.) I threw together a few things a Vin Diesel Larping reference here, some chthulu there and we really started to hit our wheelhouse. Now as for what to do with these, I started doing research and all the best info was here. I read about the experiment and I have a new found respect for what Joel is trying to do here. Once I got done watching all the Video Blogs, I came here to the forums and saw that there was a thread about virtual table top programs for DnD and decided that I could take off my Velcro Chucks and stay for awhile.

I've been reading comics and playing DnD since I was like 9. My geek runs deep. I know that a Jawa has no business near your Rancor monster toy because he will in fact swallow the Jawa whole. Yeah I got him back out but the struggle was epic.

    Hey there Fancy Bastards!

I'm Jeff from the greater Syracuse, NY area. I'm 22, in school for Engineering Science (soon to be Mechanical Engineering when I transfer to a "real" school). I'm a Browncoat, and Buffy is in the Netflix cue. I'm an anime and manga fan, attempting to "specialize" in U.C. Gundam series. And I'm terrible with introductions.

My brother (who may or may not be on the forum, not sure) introduced me to HE about a month ago. Once he forced me to listen to the podcast, I was hooked.

I'm Jacob Martin, an Australian 19 year old with Asperger's Syndrome hoping this is a place where I won't get flamed for stating that I have that condition. I like anime, Star Trek, Magic the Gathering cards, comics/manga, the occasional artsy video game, and I aim to write and illustrate books for a living. My webmanga Ask Junko! which is serialised at the team blog I work for, is not very good as of yet but the art style is getting better since I started hand-drawing my art. I blog and I love it. I once wrote an Azumanga Daioh fanfic oneshot that I continue to recieve fan-mail for. But I prefer to write my own stuff, it gives me more freedom to move.

Flamed for it? Absolutely not. Some of us here are just unfortunate enough to be socially awkward **without** being able to point to a medical diagnosis! I think you'll find us to be a pretty relaxed group though. We even argue politely!

As for the writing/illustrating stuff, check out the "Show and Tell" threads, and you'll see that a bunch of the Fancy Bastards both look for and give advice and appreciation for just that kind of thing. Come on in, and make yourself at home!

Ugh, I had a conversation with a person who told me I had Asperger's syndrome because I defeated an argument of hers with logic. So offensive to everyone involved.

ANYWAY! Nice to have you bro, if you really want to mingle with the folks around here beyond the forum (which is rad as hell, don't get me wrong) introduce yourself on the twitter thread (if you have an account, or make one! Most of us only made ours to geek out with other FBs, and that's all we really do with them) or drop in on a live podcast one of these weeks.

    Hi there FB,

I'm Emil, 29 yo guy living in Poland, Łódź. I'm your typical stock geek (computers, comics, anime, books and music). I'm following HE since someone posted a link over Reddit. I checked it out, it was funny, so it went into my "quarantine RSS Inbox" where I keep new stuff and give it a month to win my hearth. Anything that didn't "wow" me gets kicked out. Year ago I realized I live in constant e-noise and killed most of my feeds (I've been reading/watching around 15K links in course of week!) leaving following items in my "comics" feed: Penny Arcade, DIlbert, Subnormality (http://www.viruscomix.com/subnormality.html), Sinfest, XKCD, QC, Overcompensating and Hijink Ensue.

But it was just another comics on the web. Everything changed year ago when I got my Nokia 800 (That's Internet-enabled Linux based tablet that rocks) and installed a podcast application. I was keep hearing about this podcast thing but never had a chance to check it out. So I went over iTunes to check out what people like. I end up adding Skeptic's Guide to Universe, Skeptoid, Totally Rad Show, Anime World Order and then I realized that this Joel guy was writing something about podcast under last strip. I've added his RSS feed.

Next day I packed my new gadget, connected my phones and went to my office (I walk around, cars sucks ;-)). And after two or three minutes into HE podcast I was like "OMFG! OMFG! THIS IS SO FUCKING FUNNY!".

Every week I go across park with my headphones on grinning to myself. Scared mothers are running like headless ferrets, snatching thirr kids and hidding them, old people are grinding their teeths over "todays youth!", and that's really hard because they keep it in a glass over bed stand and attractive females... well, thier attitude for me never changed. ;->

There's a unshaven man, rolling his eyes and grinning, wearing black with fedora hat on his head, who talks to himself from time to time "PFFFMM, HAHA. VHS!"

People outside "geeks" see me as "A computer programer who owns a small company and part time writer who should put more effort into it".

My name is Emil and I'm a Fancy Bastard.

PS. My English sucks dirty dicks, please bear with me.

My name's Christina. I'm 24 and I live in a small town just south of Kansas City, Missouri. I'm a veterinary technician in the surgery department at a busy animal emergency and specialty hospital, which is simultaneously the most stressful and most wonderful job I've ever had. I live on a big farm with three dogs, nearly 40 domestic cats, and two rescued wildcats: a Siberian lynx and an African caracal. It's... different. :)

I nerd out hard over the X-Files. I started watching the show the night it aired (I was in third grade) and didn't stop watching until the final episode.

    Mulder + Scully = OTP 4 EVA!!1!

I'm also a big fan of comics and will give pretty much anything a read if you set it in front of me (except for Tarot. *cringe*). That being said, I do consider myself more of a DC girl than anything else, and would totally lez out for Black Canary.

I recently got introduced to the world of RPGs by Bill and his boyfriend, Josh. We get together about once a week to play either World of Darkness or D&D, and it's something I really enjoy. It's also very possibly the reason I ended up with my current beau, who is also an RPGer. On our first date, he went on for about thirty minutes about Changeling. Badorable.

Bill's also the one who introduced me to HE about a year ago. I've been reading it regularly ever since, but I've mostly just lurked quietly in the background up until now. He surprised me with a copy of the new book last weekend, and I decided to go ahead and join the forum (as I'd been meaning to do for several months but just never got around to).

Hi there, my name is Kasey Hawrylak, I am an 18 year old aspiring Theater Student from Ontario, Canada. I refuse to tell you where I live, no offense, but it's on the Minnesota Border. I saw the web-comic from a friend, and am now an avowed follower of Hi-jinks Ensue, the original podcast and video-blog, as well as all-things web-comic. I am red-green colour blind and love most well done web-comics like Looking For Group, Penny Arcade, Ctrl + Alt + Del, My Cardboard Life, Octopus Pie, Nerf This, Jump Leads, and a whole litany of others. Thank you for allowing me to be so verbally candid. I spell things "Canadian," if you want to call it that. I also really love the taste of Sushi, Sashimi, as well as a few web-comics from Asia. I am also bilingual, I speak both French and English, and am desperately attempting to learn Japanese, so far all I've picked up is Arrigatto (phonetically) Arrigatto Gozaimas, Konichiwa, and basic terms. I am a Geek. I grew up on Star Wars, but I am not afraid of Star Trek, or too opinionated about Star Wars. I am also currently working an utterly dead-end job.

Yep, it does. I get this way too often, but yes it does. I honestly want, and feel, like I need to talk to people to explain it. If you see someone wearing a bright-green t-shirt, under the same lighting as anyone who's red-green colour blind, then yes, you both perceive it differently. Your comics, are absolutely well-coloured, and that's why I enjoyed your masterful use of Photoshop, and how you do your colouring. In the end, it causes me to be way more critical than I need to be. My whole colour spectrum, from red to green (and everything on a prism in between) is shrunken. Not a lot, I'd say it's about 20-30% shaved off. Thanks! :) Always nice to speak to a webcomic legend. (fully gushing now, but who cares...) And now to how it limits me as a colour-oriented artist, well, it does. I couldn't be a functional pilot, or even a functional train driver as a colour blind individual. Legally, they won't let you. Even though I see red and green quite well? It's confusing, and sucks, since my dream has always been to be a train conductor.

    Hello All,

My name is Billy and I've been a Fancy Bastard at heart for quite some time, just of the non-commenting variety.
'Bout time to change that, methinks.
In my more mundane life (the Peter Parker, Clark Kent, or Bruce Wayne side), I'm a barista at a coffee shop (that is not a Starbucks) in Richmond, VA.
My other life (Web Slinger, Boy Scout, or Vigilante) is that of an aspiring writer and full time daydreamer.
According to various state and federal records, I'm 38 years old, but in all honesty, I never made it past 25 mentally or physically.
My geek cred is accumulated more in comic books and movies (with a smattering of video games for good measure) than computers and technology, but I have pockets of knowledge I can dip into should the need arise.

Having been just a reader at HE for as long as I have, the sense of community you guys have is one of the main reasons I finally signed up. I want to be a part of that. I see a lot of myself in the comics Joel draws as well as in the comments and discussions the rest of you FBs have, so this is me... taking the plunge.

[random]**You know... I had this whole 'western theme' thing written in my head; I walk through the saloon doors, tumbleweeds in the background, everything just kinda stops - the whole nine yards. Not sure if it's the writer part of my brain getting some exercise or the fact that I watched The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly recently. Oh, well... Carry on.**[/random]
