    Webcomics Weekend Homepage
The town of Easthampton in Pioneer Valley in Massachusetts this year is privileged enough to be home to Webcomics Weekend, the largest assembly of webcomic creators in the world ever. Forever. I live in Pioneer Valley. I am tripping balls.
Now sadly it looks like our glorious leader isn't going to able to make it (unless you all donate hotel money and air fare right now, that is magical and therefore cannot be used to pay bills instead) however just about everyone else (excluding Penny Arcade) will be there. Check out the dumbfounding guest list HERE. These guys seem to have just thrown together a few local names and lost control, because this thing reads like the frakking Oscar list of webcomics.

The event is from the 20th of March to the 22nd.

I'll be there for all three days with a friend of mine (not an FB yet, I'm working on him). Anyone else?

I want to go to this SO HARD. You guys have no idea. I have this gut feeling that I am supposed to be there. Like webcomic Jesus is going to come back that weekend and appear to every web cartoonist but me.

A plane ticket is about $300 for a round trip. I have no idea how much a hotel would be. I just can't afford the expense. Things are tight enough as it is.

Mrgh. I checked and Train tickets are even more expensive (not to mention you'd end up spending over 20 hours on the thing either way). My mind's wrestling with it but I got nothing.

Rooming with the talented Mr. Watson himself. You're living the FB dream!

Just remember, Joel =/= Josh, especially in regards to dark hotel rooms.

It's no done deal yet. The weekend's a month away, anyway. I keep thinking though, wouldn't it be ironic if HE murdered ME in my sleep?

And then writes a humorous comic about it so that we don't suspect it really happened.

There are a few really obscure comic artists going. I was surprised to see you absent from that update yesterday. Did you RSVP with the Book of Faces as they requested? The HE Facebook thing is well marked as that of a Webcomic, right? That might work. If I don't see you in the next few days I'll be sure and ask them what's up with that.

Wait... so is it just Joel, JustChristine, and me? That's... cool. I mean, it'll be keen as balls and all that, but no other FBs can manage to lumber through the frozen wastes of my frigid world in search of nirvana and funnybooks? That's sad. I wish you all could come! We'd take that shit over.

I would, but the road trip to Jersey for NYCC was epic enough.

Maybe once/if Peculiar Comics takes off I'll look at going. (Or, alternatively, I can go in drunk and pretend it's blown up, which would almost be more entertaining.)

Okay then, it's the big week! I've been wondering if there are any FB plans for friday night. I don't drink and we all know Joel doesn't, not to mention the population of the Pub Crawl is likely to turn it into more of a migratory pub nation, so that seems unlikely. Are there any other ideas? I'm up for a movie and I know there are a lot of nice theaters around the area (I STILL haven't see Watchmen, christ) but really I'd be up for whatever.

Well, I drink but I'm really trying to cut back, so I wouldn't be averse having an alternate plan in lieu of pub crawl.

I AM however volunteering at NEWW and might be needed for setup at some point on Friday, so my plans are going to have to work around that stuff (once I find out). I imagine that would be over before the pub crawl was supposed to start though. *shrug*

Yeah I would assume that would be finishing in the mid-afternoon or so.

Alright, looks like I'll be taking the 10:50 bus into Northampton, getting there around 11:10 or so. I'll check into the hotel room and call @JustChristine.
Still no idea what we'll all be doing tomorrow night.

So now that it's been over for a while, I have a question. I am admittedly not a huge webcomic fan, or to put it another way, I am a fan of a few webcomics, but not that many (HE, GWS, PA, Squared Circle). Others, like PvP, CAD, Looking For Group, xkcd, Cyanide and Happiness, and a few others are good when I remember to check them out, but I don't feel like I've missed anything if I don't read them for a few weeks/months at a time. Would it be worth it for someone like me (who also has zero artistic ability) to attend the weekend, or is it more for artists and the uber-fans who can quote panel #2 of comic #164 from obscurewebcomic.com (no I don't know if that's a real site). On one hand it seems like it would be fun to see webcomics that I don't normally get exposed to, but if it's more like a seminar on how to make better comics, and less like a "browse around"-type convention then it might not be a good fit. What say the attendees?

Well if you go by Just Christine's interview quote, she wanted to be there so much she even helped them do stuff, and she only reads two comics.

From what I understand, it was a good clusterfuck tonne of webcomicing stuff to do and buy. You might want to be a webcomic fan to go, but I don't think you need to be that uber-nerd you've posited. Even though I can't draw at all and really have only a passing interest in even making a webcomic (or being a Tycho and just being a writer) I would still find some of those panels interesting. Stuff like how to engage readers with a gag a day strip with no recurring characters, or who would win in a fight between webcomic artists and a bear.

The panels would have been less hilarious if I wasn't a walking webcomic wikipedia, but mostly it was just a really fun group of people all trying to make each other laugh at once.
