So, I went to see Terminator:Salvation this afternoon, and I absolutely LOVED it. I have always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I even enjoyed the (unfortunately cancelled) Sarah Connor Chronicles. I saw the horrible reviews of the movie, and I gotta say, I don't get it. Anyone else have any thoughts?
I don't understand the love for the Terminator franchise. The first one was an Okish horror/action movie. The second one was the very definition of empty summer action blockbuster and it has pretty much floundered since then. Nothing I've seen of the TV show was particularly captivating, T3 was atrocious and there's nothing i've seen of Terminator: Salvation looks particularly gripping. All the previews I've seen give me the sense that all the best parts are in the commercials.

Saw it yesterday and I thought it was only marginally better than T3. Bad writing, bad acting (even from Bale sometimes which I didn't think was possible). There are several times in the movie that reek of a producer or some hollywood d-bag saying "you know, its missing something, we need to punch it up lets put some cool bullshit right here!" Also when did Terminators turn into fucking Transformers.

THIS...
The ending was changed due to a massive script leak, i wouldn't call that fan stupidity. Also which ending are you talking about, the super dark one McG wanted to use during pre production or the more toned down "OMGZ What a twist!" ending?
| Spoilers (highlight to read) |
| The super dark ending being John Connor dies at the end and they put his flesh on Marcus and then Marcus murders the entire resistance or the toned down twist ending of John Connor dies they put his skin on Marcus and Marcus ends up leading the resistance as John Connor. |
I'm just not getting all the hate you guys. I mean, the movies were NEVER really about John Connor, so Bale having a limited role wasn't a problem for me (plus he did that weird Batman voice, so less was more). I thought the other actors were great, especially the guys playing young Kyle and Marcus, and the plot wasn't bad either. Time line inconsistencies weren't even a factor because each prior movie had to have shifted the events at least a little, so its flexible. Also, things going *boom* is not a bad thing in this type of flick. Someone said something about the Terminators being "Transformers" and, while them using pretty much the same sound effect was a bit of a rip off, I didn't mind that they showed different machines than just the ones we've seen, and why wouldn't Skynet make multi-tasking machines? I would. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming it was "high-cinema" or anything like that (neither were its predecessors for that matter), but it was fun, and I thought it was well done. Maybe I'm just easy to please.
