Just hoping to get some opinions on the PC game "The Path". My husband says it's a piece of artistic jerk-off, while I think it's a great horror game that brings back the creepiness of the original Little Red Riding Hood story.
I haven't heard of it, but horror's not really my genre anyway. I do think something can be artistic jerk-off and still be good, though. Flower for the PS3 is an example.
I guess maybe horror isn't the best way to describe it. It's a slow game. The point is to ignore the instructions to go to grandma's house and wander around in the forest to find your "wolf" and strange items. It's all about the atmosphere, which is undeniably creepy.
Just watched some gameplay footage. It was absolutely an artistic jerkoff, so hard the director probably came twice and then died. It was also an absolutely amazing atmosphere, that sucked me right in. There was a lot that didn't make sense, little things that I assume were just added to be quasi-creepy but instead detracted somewhat from my enjoyment, like a ringing funeral bell. Just kinda unnecessary when you're standing over an open grave. I think the images flashing over the screen also detracted.
If I was even the least bit into this genre (whatever it is) I would go nuts trying to find a copy as fast as I could. I'm not though, and while I understand and can respect most of the artistry, it's just not for me. Very impressed but also set back, I guess, would be my short n' sweet.
