Microsoft did their presentation just a few hours ago:

Metal Gear Solid Rising to Xbox 360
Final Fantasy XIII to Xbox 360

The big this was Project Natal, a motion sensing camera that will supposedly allow you to control any video game with nothing but your body. This also includes voice recognition.

As part of Project Natal, there's Milo which is a super creepy kid that you're supposed to interact with. This will include facial recognition, scanning, and all types of weird stuff.

Okay, before this, I must admit I'm a Nintendo fanboy. Therefore, horribly biased. But it's time to talk about Nintendo's press conference

For those who don't really care and just want a quick summary:

Wii Sports Resort will use Motion Plus (Dohickey on end of Wiimote to make it more sensitive), and is coming July 26th bringing with it Frisbee, Sword fighting, JetSki, Archery, basektball, parachuting, and a variety of other games.
New Super Mario Bros Wii (most unoriginal name ever) is New Super Mario Bros DS on the Wii with the option for 4 players to platform together.
Mario Galaxy 2 is indeed just a straight sequel to Mario Galaxy
Metroid: Other M. appears to be a strange hybrid of 3D sidescroller (in a 2D envrionment) and FPS.

Now for those who do care, here's all the shit that's coming out. (I have to seriously break this post up, I guess I talk too much).

    Nintendo:

    Metroid: Other M

    Trailer

Boy this one came out of no where. Team Ninja has the honor of continuing the Metroid franchise, and frankly their work looks amazing. Metroid Prime 3 is still the peak of graphical ability on the Wii, but this game could rival it. Throw in that weird mix of side scrolling and first person, and I just HAVE to see more footage. Really excited about this one.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Wii

    Trailer

It's so odd for Nintendo to release a direct sequel to a Mario Platformer (Yeah they did Mario Bros 1-3, but after that Super Mario World, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy, they've all been their own thing). Miyamoto normally wont' let Mario go unless it has something new, but considering the naming convention, I honestly expect this will be a 100% normal sequel. Improving on the last, adding tons of levels, copy and paste. It's fine for Nintendo on this specific franchise, just as long as the next one is unique. Until then, I'll enjoy more Galaxy.

Mario & Luigi 3: Inside Bowser (or something) - DS

Mario & Luigi has turned into a quirky but solid Platforming / RPG franchise. I'm a bit worried about this one going from 4 fighters (Baby Mario & Luigi / Mario & Luigi) back to just 2. I really liked having extra guys. Either way, you know it's going to be fun. Fighting inside Bowser's belly should be hilarious (I hope they don't have a frozen level, it really wouldn't make sense).

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - DS

The fanboys were hoping for the Wii Zelda game announcement, and only got a brief mention of the Zelda DS game. It appears to be in the exact same graphic style and control style of Zelda; Phantom Hourglass, a game which I enjoyed somewhat but didn't finish. I'll be looking for review scores before grabbing this game.

    New Super Mario Bros Wii

    Trailer

New Super Mario Bros on the DS is one of the best platformers for the system. It's everything the classic Nintendo fan wanted, a throw back to the original 2D sidescrolling platforming that made the NES a classic. Bringing it to the Wii and bringing in 3 extra players makes me suspicious. Platforming has never really been a multiplayer affair, so I don't know why Nintendo is trying to shoehorn it in. I'm worried that when I play this game single player (which I will, almost exclusively) the stages will be too large, the camera too far back, too many items or enemies, or something. I'm worried about the Mario Kart Wii effect. When Nintendo tried to expand the game to 12 players, they expanded everything. Now when you played with only a few people, the track was too wide, too long, the items too over powering or depended on people being near you. The end result was that the game was ruined for small numbers. I still trust in Nintendo though, they tend to put a lot of heart into Mario platforming games.

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention: Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth

    Nintendo continued
Mario vs Donkey Kong - The Minis March On (or something) - DSi Ware

Nintendo can keep a secret when they want to. We know near nothing about the game, and it's going to be out in less than a week. Those who played Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 know the franchise has turned into a sort of Lemmings Platformer, and with the ability to create and share your own levels, this could get really interesting (why has there never been a customizable Mario game where you can create your own platforming levels). The only thing holding this game back is being DSi exclusive, we'll see if the adoption rates for the system are enough to help M V DK 3. On the positive side, this game will probably be 10 bucks or less.

Wario Ware: Do It Yourself - DS (DSiWare

Anyone who plays the frantic Wario Ware series has to think of a few game ideas of their own. Wario Ware; DIY plans to let any user create their own microgame, and share it with friends (with the DSi). I suppose we'll get an idea of how that kind of system works with Mario vs Donkey Kong, but I've got a feeling that Wario Ware will be even greater in the user created content component. If the user truly can create any microgame, we could see some insane ideas.

    Wii Fit Plus - Wii

As an owner of Wii Fit, this kinda annoys me. The first features they talk about (be able to create your own work out routine, set the time, reps, skip all the crap in between, track calories burned) SHOULD have been in the first Wii Fit. They absolutely should have been. Then to hear only 5 more strength/yoga exercises have been added really made me annoyed. However, adding 15 balance games got my attention, especially the one pictured above which will allow you to jump around like Mario. Yeah, you'll use the WiiFit balance board to run through a mario like stage. Holy crap.
The pricing of the software only pack will be vital. I really feel that it should only be 30 dollars, but we'll see if Nintendo is so kind. I'm frustrated that this wasn't in WiiFit, but tempted enough that I'll probably get it (but I won't pay full price).

    Wii Sports Resort - Wii

The more I see, the more nervous I am. This is Wii Sports, the best selling game... ever (seriously, it beat Mario Bros). So why does Wii Sports: Resort not excite me? Maybe it's because we've heard about it for a year... maybe it's because I haven't gotten a chance to use it with MotionPlus, so I'm suspicious of how much that dongle will add to the experience. Maybe because Nintendo has proven that given the opportunity to add a ton of stuff (more customization in Miis, better graphics, online play), they have no desire to. I will pick up Wii Sports Resort because I know I'll have fun with it, but I have a feeling in the back of my head Nintendo is being lazier than they should be with this sequel.

    Wii Vitality - Wii

    .....

........ seriously I can't explain this one. Iwata (president of Nintendo) got on the stage for 10 minutes, blabbered on, then showed this. It monitors your pulse, he says they'll make software that will help you to relax. They didn't show one bit of software, not even what the data looks like. For all you know that dongle is just plastic. It's supposed to be a preview of what's to come, maybe that explains the dark clouds looming overhead.

    Third Party

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers - Wii

Honestly, I don't care too much for this series, but it does look pretty good.

    Golden Sun DS - DS

Holy crap Golden Sun... holy crap Golden Sun.... HOLY CRAP, it's Golden Sun in 3D and on the DS! I'm so glad one of my favorite GBA series and possibly my favorite RPG series overall is getting a chance on the DS. I don't need to know anymore details to know I want this one.

    Guitar Hero 5 - Wii

Not much to really say, it's more Guitar Hero. There's some kind of party mode for Wii, but it doesn't sound too interesting.

    Kingdom Hearts - DS

Another one that's just not in my caring range, maybe some of you care about it though.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Wii

This is a game few have heard of, which is a real shame. Muramasa is a throw back to a classic drawn style. It's a 2D sidescrolling beat-em'up. The gameplay already looks like it flows easily, with a classic feel, but it's the art that really just sets it apart. Basically mixing in a cell shaded and japanese feel, the result is a game that comes absolutely in live when in motion. This is something to keep an eye on.

No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle - Wii

Anyone who missed out on the first No More Heroes needs to go rent it right now. It's a game that needed a lot more polish, but at it's core is an absolutely fantastic beat-em up mechanic that makes you wanting more. Combine that with Suda 51's absurdity and you have a game begging to be played and enjoyed. When I reviewed it, I told people it was a game that simply NEEDED a sequel to work out the bugs and polish it up. My wish is granted. And with rumors of Motion Plus support, I'm drooling. Why can't 2010 get here now!?

    Red Steel 2 - Wii

Red Steel had a tough act. Try to make a game with guns, swords, make it for the Wii, for launch. It was a game that was okay, but needed a gallon of polish. Red Steel 2 will be the first game to be used exclusively with Wii Motion Plus, which means you will have to have a Wii Motion Plus nodule on your Wii to play the game at all times, unlike other games where it's an option (don't worry, motionPlus is packed in). The guys at Ubisoft are excited, and so should anyone who wants to see sword play at it's full potential on Wii.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Wii

The creepiness of Silent Hill is being brought to the Wii. I'm very hopeful that they can use the graphics properly to bring out the horror. Other than that, I know little of this game.

    Third Party continued:

    The Conduit

Last year's E3 SUCKED for Nintendo (say the phrase "Wii Music drummer" to any Nintendo fan and they will twitch). The Conduit has been a light of hope for all that time. A FPS developed exclusively for the Wii, with graphics that rival the Xbox 360, incredible customization in your controls, and online multiplayer. It's only a few weeks away, here's hoping the game succeeds. The guys at High Voltage deserve that much.

    TMNT: Smash Up! - Wii

Take Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, put them in Super Smash Bros Brawl, produce awesome game. Seriously, it's a 4 player fighter, in the vein of Smash Bros, with online multiplayer. Jawesome.

    Tony Hawk: Ride - Wii

I checked out of the Tony Hawk series a long time ago, and frankly, a skateboard peripheral won't get me back in. I really don't want to be doing kick flips in my living room. I can't. That's the point of a video game.

Tiger Woods, Grand Slam Tennis, Virtua Tennis - Wii

I'm just lumping these because they are all releasing at the same time, all sports titles for Wii, all supporting Wii Motion Plus. I know I'm going to get one of them, I think Virtua Tennis. Anyway, those who played Wii Sports long enough know that Tennis was definitely the game with the most potential for expandability. Previous EA Tennis games have been great, but the reports from video game reporters for Tennis with motion plus have been astounding. It's no longer about just hitting the ball hard enough to go fast, if you do that you'll just knock it out of the park. You've got to control every shot. I really think this is the year that we see a Wii game truly bring sports to life in video games.

    Cursed Mountain - Wii

This one has not been mentioned and will probably not be mentioned in E3, but I can't resist mentioning it. A very simple game about a man investigating some monks on a mountain in search of his lost brother. Then everything goes to shit and he gets haunted by ghosts. It's just a beautiful game. Little else is know.

    EDIT:
    Nearly forgot one:
    Tatsunoke vs Capcom - Wii

This “newer” version of TvC, currently dubbed Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, removes one character due to licensing issues, and adds five new ones, online gameplay, more mini-games and an enhanced story mode.

    Features:
    • 26 fan-favorite characters from the Tatsunoko and Capcom universes face-off in this stylish 2D fighter
    • Tag-team battles and customized two-character fighting techniques produce a wild, dazzling spectacle
    • Wi-Fi Online gameplay allows worldwide matches
    • Four battle modes include Friend, Rival, Free and Ranked Battles
    • Match-ups are not restricted to just “Friends”
    • Earn Points and Titles (for Title Creation) for all to see
    • All-new VS gameplay mechanics creates a new way for fans to return to the series
    • More than 20 Mini-game provide additional multiplayer fun
    • Enhanced control schemes offer a simplified control scheme option and allow use of the Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller
    • Wii-exclusive

My rough overall impression of Nintendo is that they are playing it safe and slow. Nothing is really jumping out or moving forward, it is all just extension of what they have. I know Nintendo has opened themselves up to the casual universe with the Wii, but they should keep an eye on the Xbox, they want a piece of the pie too. Natal says that loud and clear.

But I have my doubts about Natal. Just from the three demos shown (Painting, that breakout clone, and Milo).
Painting was obviously simple on the camera and heavier on the voice recognition, but I still don't see voice recognition being used outside of a menu system. After all, in a fire fight, it's easier to flick a button to tell your guys where to go rather than try to bark orders (and possibly pronounce them wrong). As for the breakout clone, that lady looked like she was about to trip over herself. I can see it be used for some games, but the real problem is that the system has no easy way of precisely knowing when you move forward (to do a button press). While the system has shown your picture getting bigger or smaller, I don't think it can be detailed enough. I also think the "Demo" video over simplified the system. There's no way you can control a skateboarding game with Natal, it can't get the fine points of feet on a skate board moving. I question if it can sense your arms accurately enough for steering and shifting gears.

Basically, I'm the Nintendo fan that has gone through the hype of the Wiimote looking at the Microsoft fans dealing with similar hype. I'm very worried about real world application and controls. Not to mention that in the end, at least with the Wiimote you can do simple flicks on your couch if you want. This one doesn't seem to give you a choice in the matter.

I'm far too jaded to be excited about either one. I have to try the pudding first. There's just too much speculation and too many unsubstantiated claims, and until I can really use either outside of carefully-controlled demos I'm going to reserve judgment. I've had my heart broken by E3 too many times.

If you were wondering what they were REALLY talking about during the Wii conference, here you go

Some highlight gifs from the Microsoft conference

    After the Ubisoft conference

There's also this pointless one from the Metroid: Other M trailer:

That only becomes more ridiculously hilarious in multiples.

    As well as:

Okay, this next one is harder to explain, at the Sony conference there was this bored looking translator leading some to speculate what he was writing down all that time....

I'm really just excited at the idea that I'll get to play 2 new Bioware games within the next year. Also not having to wait an eternity for Valve to release a Left 4 Dead sequel has me quite pleased.

If the new Metroid turns out to be as awesome as it looks I may just have to get one of my friends drunk enough to sell me their Wii that's sitting unused in their closet for $100 or less.

Just saw these hilarious impressions from Scribblenauts DS

I had played all the big titles at E3. Private showings of God of War III, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake. But at 4:00 on Thursday, I was wondering around the show floor, wondering what else I had to see. I saw a small little booth for "Scribblenauts!" in the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment section. I mean, who goes to that booth? But I remember hearing about it on GAF, and so I decided to check it out.

Best game of E3? Without a fucking doubt. Anyone who says otherwise did not play Scribblenauts. Best game of all time? Jesus Christ, I don't know, maybe. It's a game that challenges your IMAGINATION. No other game has ever done that.

So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn't quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn't work, a torch didn't work, a pickaxe didn't work. In my frustration, I wrote in "Time Machine". And one popped up. What the fuck? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were fucking dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a fucking DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the shit out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I FUCKING TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHERFUCKING ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There's nothing you can't do.

    Holy fucking shit.

By the way, here are some of the odder things you can summon:

    Cthulu

    Einstein
    God
    Death
    Long Cat
    Keyboard Cat

I'm interested to see how the Team Ninja Metroid game, mostly because I want to see how they do without Itagaki (you know he's sexy).
