Do you do any creative acts that result in awesome, or semi awesome? post a link or some pics here and let fancy bastards take a peek.

I lay no claim to awesome or even semi-awesome except perhaps for designing an official Jonathan Coulton t-shirt.

  • I do do art! (hehe, do-do) However, I am of the opinion that NO ONE should be forced to see it. Actually, I just don't have anything worthwhile that is linkable. I enjoy printmaking, digital collage, and am in the process of trying to write/illustrate a comic, but am stalled out on character development.

  • EddieEddie May 2008

I art, technically, but I usually don't like to call it such (thus, Stuff By Ed); I don't like to have an ego about it, I suppose. I do video work, mostly. I also illustrated a book in my senior year of high school.

As soon as I un-break the forum, I will add a section for you guys to show off your art/music/writing/etc.

I sort of art... I love doodling, and writing scripts for sequential art, but rarely draw anything worthwhile.

Which one!? I absolutely loved all of his shirt designs! I just wish he wasn't using CafePress. We emailed back and forth about his options and Cafepress is all he has time for. I know how time consuming dealing with shirt fulfillment can be, but their quality is pretty low.

Monster Mayhem is mine, actually. :D I kind of feel bad about insisting on doing the colored shirts, because the quality is not quite what it could be. It looks best on the red shirts, not so great on the blue ones.

Dude! That design is amazing! I would buy one if it wasnt on Cafepress. (sucks for Joco and me).

  • I went to school for film production, and made a movie called "Joe vs. the Killer Robots". If you like campy sci-fi comedies than check it out.
Since I graduated I've been doing some editing, and lots of photoshop projects which can been seen on my portfolio site, www.greggallingerdesign.com

Aww geez, thanks Joel! And yeah, I wonder if he's going to recoup the cost of the iPod I got as a prize... :/ Even so, I am totally still wearing my shirt to his next concert in SF.

  • I'm an amateur Photoshopper, but I would love to be much much better at it. I never cease to be amazed at what the program can do in the hands of you skilled artists.

Practice practice practice is all I can say to that. There was a time that I was so intimidated by Photoshop that I actually stuck with Photostudio 5 for an entire year after acquiring Photoshop for the first time. If you saw some of my earliest efforts (which I keep to remind me of how far I've come when I start kicking myself) you would laugh your ass off.

I totally know that feeling! But even now I often opt not to use the Adobe programs just because they are so powerful. I can tweak a thing to death in PS or Illustrator if I let myself, so I also do stuff in oekaki or MS Paint.

  • JarmoJarmo June 2008

    Hell yeah I "art"

see my fancy crap (sketches & photos and even really sad poems :D ) at glottis78.deviantart.com

  • larnsturtlarnsturt June 2008

You can see some of my "art" featured in the California Shakespeare Theater performance of Pericles. I was an artisan for the production, meaning I built hands props and did a bit of metalworking. You can see photos at the CalShakes website under the "Our Plays" tab. Hells yeah I made the frame for that flaming sail. And hemmed the waves.

I also made a spyglass out of a fat broom handle and a few bits of leather that I am particularly vain of, but it didn't seem to make it into any of the photos.

    Anyway. That's what I do.

I taught myself to make videos and photoshop and I also took up photography for a while...

Nothing special but the videos are here
    and the photography is here

I want to go to school for film editing but thats not going to happen so I am content for now with my videos. I sort of just opened up Windows Movie Maker and poked around until I made something and havn't stopped in a year... the photography I fell out of love with when I became manager of a portrait studio and got sick of taking the same picture over and over again.

Looks like you're doing pretty damned well with what you've got, but if you want to upgrade from WMM, I'd go with Sony Vegas. I personally use Final Cut Pro on a Mac, but from what I've seen and heard of Vegas, it's top-of-the-line.

Yeah I want Sony Vegas Pro but I have absolutely no money... but Thanks! Not many people actually look at my stuff!

  • SeanSean July 2008

I don't know anything about Vegas, but I use Adobe Premiere Pro, which is virtually identical to Final Cut Pro, other than the whole PC/Mac thing. And it's pretty easy to *ahem* find online. You know...to buy.

Yes, because...uh...this community, myself included, promotes the...er...purchase of insanely-expensive art-related software.

hahaha knowing my luck, I would only manage to give my computer a virus... I should just hold off until I can purchase it the old fashioned way...

  • DramDram July 2008

I did a bunch of art today to illustrate my blog. I made a mini-comic for all the posts so far. Dramspot.blogspot.com

  • Final Cut Pro is the shit, it's becoming the industry standard. Plus if you have the newest Final Cut Pro Studio 2 it comes with Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2, DVD Studio Pro, and Colors... it's the shit. I went to school for film production so I could geek out forever on how rad it is.

Where did you go? I want to go to Video Symphony but I am about as poor as Boxcar Pete...

  • Ok, I'm going to start the great Sumi painting experiment any day now...its the fear that keeps me from it.

Sumi? Good luck! It's wicked hard.

But if you get into it, and want to paint on silk, I totally recommend Dharma Trading Co. for silks. It's a local store here, but they ship worldwide and have hellagood selections and even hellagooder prices. It's run by a bunch of hippies, so they're really laid back about stuff. They have great ink selections, too. I just went in there today to buy some dye and things for a present.

    So....yeah....luck with that!

thanks man!yeah, i used to sketch a ton, but i dont like sitting down for just 10-20 minutes at a time to do it, gotta have like 2-3 hours to just sit down and relax; hence, the lack of updates on deviantart; oh, and thanks for the clickable link!

  • EliEli March 2009
