OH FANCIEST OF BASTARDS! I seek your help:
I'm designing a webpage for my dad, more specifically, the softball team he coaches. I want a system that will allow him to update things such as a news section, a tournament schedule, a calendar, etc. without his having to learn any sort of coding.
I know HTML, and some CSS, but I'm willing to learn new things. What should I code this site in? Are there any web tools that will allow my dad to play the part he wants to without my constant involvement beyond regular website updates, etc.?
Thanks!
There are content management systems out there - I'm honestly not that familiar with them. If your dad would like to update the site without having to deal with FTP, HTML, etc., my first instinct would be to try Wiki software. I've used Confluence in an environment in which we had a number of users that had little web experience but needed to make regular updates to our site. Setting up user permissions was easy, and the interface was simple to use with very little coding (simpler than BBCode).
Confluence is enterprise software, so obviously not the right choice here, but maybe MediaWiki would work? The downside of using Wiki software is that you give up a lot of control over site design. You really don't need the capabilities of a wiki, either, but I'm ignorant to other options.
Hosted Wordpress? Just make sure he turns off those frelling SnapShots. ::stab::
Like Bill said, I would suggest Wordpress. It's not that much to even host it yourself. I suggest nearlyfreespeech.net if you want to.
