Got my copy of The Beatles: Rock Band yesterday! Fired up the Xbox, invited some friends over for an evening of gaming...then promptly beat the game. Turns out 45 songs goes a lot faster than you'd think.
I'm really not complaining, though. It was all in all a very good group gaming experience, and the way that the story mode was arranged was fun to watch. The songs were a lot of fun to play, but it all ended...too soon.
Yeah it's tons of fun to play and tons of fun to watch, but there's just not enough content to justify the cost. I feel like I've been milked by the rights holders. The extras - the photos and videos - are pretty solid, but I'm not enough of a Beatles fan for that to make the difference. At $40 I would recommend this game wholeheartedly - at $60 this game needs to come much closer to an anthology-level collection, rather than a handful of songs (oh but don't forget you can pay to download more!).
I'm torn, because what's on the disc is done very well, but you're definitely paying a substantial Beatles tax (wouldn't George Harrison have been proud?).
