Ok, here's my idea.
You know the Shitty Movie Night you guys had and attempted to live-cast?
I have another, similar idea. But it's gonna HURT. In the HEART.
Soul Crushingly Depressing Animated Movie Night. Josh being the sadistic individual he is should add his own depressing animated favorites to this. Here's two I would want to nominate:
Mary and Max: Comes out on DVD at the end of October. You will freaking CRY. I'm sorry, you just WILL. I saw this in the cinema and because I have the exact same autistic spectrum disorder the character Max does... I bawled my eyes out on the way home from the cinema and my family were speechless because they were completely understanding of why this movie made me cry but were powerless to stop the waterworks.
But the other one is a classic tearjerker, almost infamous for its sheer destroying of hope:
Grave of the Fireflies. Come on. You know you want to subject yourselves to this so we can hear your tears and cries of anguish.
Anyone else in the Fancy Bastards can nominate examples as long as they have a DVD release at the very least. Mary and Max will fit into this category at the end of October, and Grave of the Fireflies is a staple of anime DVDs found on otaku buddy shelves. Go forth and WEEP!
Go watch Ringing Bell. It is one of the most depressing animated movies movies ever. The movie is about a lamb whose mother is killed by a wolf. The lamb goes out in search of the wolf, not for revenge, but to learn to be strong.
| Spoilers (highlight to read) |
| The sadest part comes at the end when he returns to his fellow sheep and they fear and do not recognize him. He kills the wolf, who is pretty much his father now, and is left to wander the world alone for the rest of his days... D: |
