Nerdiest Thing You Ever Got in the Mail
  • NotoriousNGPNotoriousNGP October 2009

I just recieved in the post (Australian for mail) my Star Trek Season 1 Blu-Ray box set WITH a Phaser Universal remote.

It strikes me as the nerdiest thing I've ever recieved in the mail since that Warhammer 40,000 3rd Edition box set I had as a kid.

What's the nerdiest thing you've ever recieved in the mail/post/owl post/pidgeon courier?

...So basically, the nerdiest thing we ever bought online?

Yeah basically. But you get bonus points if your grandma ever sent you a Firefly Browncoat she made herself, just for you. Because that is something that cannot be bought online, and therefore trumps it if such a thing occurs.

Both online and grandma Christmas gifts sent in the post count, or for bonus points, something somebody bought you online without you knowing about it, and you got it as a big surprise.

From more of a "geek" side, I guess my new video card. From a "nerd" side.....A Sideshow Star Wars statue of Darth Vader.

It's not nerdy so much, but when we first moved into our house, we continued to receive "Jesus" mail from some church the previous Hispanic owners made the mistake of encouraging with a donation. The mail was usually stuffed with all manner of wierd gimmicky things. Things like two pennies taped to a page and instructions to put them under your pillow while praying, and Jesus would come down and deliver unto you a delicious breakfast or something. We have also received "Prayer Napkins" and 11x14 pictures of white Jesus. All of which was sad to work better if you mailed them a check in the (postage not included) self addressed envelope they enclosed. It was just bizarre.

I also mail-ordered my first computer from "dude". It was a 33mhz behemouth with a 200mb hard disk and a 28.8 modem. I was rocking that dos-based AOL chat room.

An autographed red ipod nano from Johnathan Coulton loaded with his songs. :D

Because you'll never need more! This computer will last you forever!

I still need to buy that shirt.

Mine would have to be either the Halo 3 Collector's Edition, complete with a replica Master Chief helmet, or a kit to create your own sugar glass (enough to make a 'glass' window for me to get thrown through). That second one counts as nerdy/geeky, right?

Probably import Dreamcast stuff from lik-sang.com, which laster was shut down by Sony for importing/exporting PSPs.

My copy of "Hijinks Ensue Volume 1", available now? :)

Um no seriously probably the Roomba.

My mom once sent me working sonic screwdriver when the one I had broke. It came with psychic paper. I was really excited, like a little kid. I still have the urge to bring it to work and use it on animals, but no one here would get it.

Bring it to work, and get the ultimate Dr.Who/Lost crossover pic by using it on the polar bear.

The star trek shirt I am wearing at the moment. My girlfriend sent in all of those tokens to get it for me.

  • jetstreamLtjetstreamLt November 2009

Um i would have to say...

    My parts for my computer.

  • KazuoKazuo November 2009

I remembered another one. My xkcd "sudo make me a sandwich" shirt. I like to laugh at people who don't know the difference between sudo and pseudo and think they get the joke.

  • John+DarcJohn Darc November 2009

...What? What would that even mean? Pseudo- is a prefix that means like, not real...

So does "Pseudo Make Me a Sandwich" mean "Make me a sandwich (not really)"?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what most people think it means. I've asked a couple of people who I know didn't understand the joke and thought they did, and they all came to that conclusion. It's also really funny when people demand that they see my shirt after I tell them that they won't get the joke and then, as predicted, they don't get it. People seem to take it as an insult to their intelligence when told that they can't understand a t-shirt. Then, they feel even worse when it turns out that they can't.

Easy, my Captain Jean-Luc Piccard standing cardboard cut out. I just wish my dog hadn't have killed it a week later.

Buncha things. Imported a Canadian glam rock band's CD...from Canada. (Any Robin Black fans?) Yesterday I got a shirt I designed for a podcast novel about zombie mechs in the future (not mine). I'm sure there are more, but it's too early for thinking.

  • mSeligamSeliga March 2010

I'd have to update it and say my "Snowflake in the Wind" print. I love it so very very much.

  • zingzing March 2010

My Jayne hat. It came in a box with straw and a note hoping that it would keep me warm on my tra-vels. It was the best day ever.

  • BillBill April 2010

Any of the things I've received from Joel. Also our Netflix Instant Watch disc for the Wii, which just came today. The first thing we watched was Dr. Who. ¬_¬

Oh my god. That is amazing. As an aside, I have Steven Colbert and President Obama. The best part was bringing Obama home, I strapped him into the passenger seat so I could use the carpool lane. Now he watches me have sex.

  • Well thats a hard one, probably the couple of source books for the TMNT roleplaying game.

  • lisathernlisathern April 2010

I have so many, many choices, but I will pick my first edition Angel puppet doll from the "Smile Time" episode when Angel was turned into a puppet. Of course, it remains MIB.

  • Hmmm... Probably either my HE Wizard Pride t-shirt or my visual companion to Serenity. The latter I bought to write a paper for my Ethical Theory class discussing the Operative's beliefs and actions and how they contrast with John Stuart Mill's philosophy of Utilitarianism. That is how much of a nerd I am.

Then there are the two geekiest things I've ever received as gifts---dunno if they were bought online or not. The first was definitely Firefly: The Official Companion, Volume One. My boyfriend gave it to me for our first Christmas together four years ago. (That was when I knew for sure he was a keeper.) The second, also from my boyfriend but given to me for my birthday last year, was my own set of dice, made of amethyst. They're so tiny as to hardly be usable, but it's the thought that counts.
