I discovered JoCo when I simply HAD to download the Code Monkeys theme song. At the time, the only other song I immediately found with his Baby Got Back cover, so I had no idea what I was missing. Then came Portal, and the rest is history!
Bought the Thing-A-Week box set, and pretty much his entire mp3 catalog. Can't wait for June 21st in NYC!!
(edited to correct the date. Thanks JD)
Mr. Coulton rocks my socks off. Re: Your Brains... Classic!
Hmm, I was gonna wear some sort of "Pluto was a planet!" shirt, which are readily available all over the internet, but I didn't buy it yet. And I don't yet own any HE merch. I might just go dress-shirt and 8bit tie, if the weather isn't super shitty and the place isn't balls-hot. It's looking like it will be both rainy and hot that day.
edit: Also, the concert is the 21st. Don't be two days late!
OK, so how was the concert? How many FB's were there?
It was outstanding! Paul and Storm have the "warm-up" thing down pat, and JoCo was great as expected. There was even a *real* encore (after the phony one), which threw the guys off, as they had no idea what to play. My geek-out moment of the night came when the three of them covered Birdhouse In Your Soul. Pictures and autographs after the show for the ten or so people that cared enough to stick around. His love of his fans came out through the entire show. It was my first live JoCo show, and it somehow lived up to my unreasonable expectations. Sometime later this week, I'll upload the videos to YouTube for everyone to see, and send Joel the pic of JoCo posing with me and my GSYFB shirt.
John Darc found us while we were waiting for Coulton, Paul, and Storm to come out after the show, which I believe makes this the first official Fancy Bastard meet-up! WooHoo - I'm a pioneer!!
*Blows dust off of this thread*
Wow! JoCo is mentioned in my Mass Communications text book (Media and Culture: An Introduction to Mass Communication, 6th ed, Campbell, pg 89)(emphasis mine):
Cover Music Undermines Black Artists
Since the integration of popular music in the 1960s, black and white artists have recorded and performed each other's original tunes. For example, Otis Redding, an established R&B songwriter, covered the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" in 1966. Both the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton covered Robert Johnson's 1930's blues songs, and Clapton had a No. 1 hit in 1974 with Bob Marley's reggae tune "I Shot the Sheriff." In 2005, humorist Jonathan Coulton recorded a soft-rock version of Sir Mix-a-Lot's 1992 hit "Baby Got Back."
So apparently JoCo is playing an Obama fundraiser. If any FB's are in NYC and over 21 and support Obama on the 15th of Sept., you could go.

Speaking of, at this exact moment HE is #1 and #2 in Google Images for "Jonathan Coulton". Even before the man himself. Weird.
As much as I love JoCo, I can't support either candidate. I can either vote for the guy who is all symbolism and no substance, or the guy who will die approximately 38 seconds after taking office, leaving the person who is even MORE symbolic and LESS substance.
My wife is putting down her dog's name as a write-in vote. And I hereby invite Jonathan Coulton to play at a political fundraiser in my living room.
I'm seeing him in a few weeks in Manchester with Paul and Storm it should be pretty awesome.
