Captain Forehead Broodypants discussion goes here...(AKA, the Angel thread)
  • Wow, how did this thread not get created before now! You are all fired! So, thoughts, reminiscing, rants? Go!

If we can avoid any and all mentions of Connor it'd be super, that character was so poorly handled and was definitely the beginning of the end for that show. But to counterpoint that, seasons 3 and 4 where he was most heavily involved were easily the best of the show. How could you not love that rooftop battle with the Beast.

  • 15step15step June 2008

Let us not speak of Connor. He was Angel's Dawn, as far as I'm concerned. As far as characters go, I'm all about Lorne. Lorne ftw.

  • FerrosFerros June 2008

I would like to throw in a special mention for Harmony, she was great on Buffy but i think she really hit her stride in Angel as the secretary. Criminally underused.

Oh, I completely agree! One of my favorite Angel episodes is the one where you get to see what a day in the life of Harmony is like.

Aww c'mon, not even super-well-adjusted-season-5 Connor? Alright fine. And that rooftop battle was the shizz, and you wanna know why? Wesley, that's why.

    Season 5 was gold.

Aside from a few misfires, I agree. Its my favorite season.

  • AaronAaron June 2008

Season 5 definitely is the best. Then again a lot of the Buffy crew got to work on that season so I feel you can definitely chalk it up to that.

  • John+DarcJohn Darc June 2008

    I totally dug the

    Spike/Angel thing of Season 5

Just, the whole season. How it started, what it was about, how it ended. *Sigh*

  • It was pretty amazing.

  • John+DarcJohn Darc June 2008

What's worse of the three shows? Buffy getting to run its course, Firefly dying in it's earliest days, or Angel getting cancelled right when it finally seemed to get out of the shadow of Buffy?

  • FerrosFerros June 2008

Then i must be the only person who thought season 5 of Angel was the weakest. I didn't really have a sense of focus until the last few episodes, there were to many little story arcs that were started and ended in an episode or two. I just didn't enjoy it as much as i did the earlier seasons.

  • John+DarcJohn Darc June 2008

It was more so casual fans could jump into it.

Also, no Connor=large amount of win.

edit: also, that line from "Why We Fight" is still relevant today. "You don't win a war by doing whatever it takes. You win by doing what's right."

Well, I would lean towards the rape of Firefly, but when it was on I was never able to catch it due to Fox constantly changing the time slot (I only became a fan after I got to watch the DVDs), so the cancellation of Angel probably stung more at the time. As for Buffy, I was sad when it ended, but I think 7 years is pretty good for a "cult" series, so I have no complaints.

  • FerrosFerros June 2008

Firefly never even got a proper shot so it definitely came off the worst of the three. You can tell Fox didn't like it immediately because of the way they mishandled the pilot, it's like they wanted it to fail.

Thus explaining the "Save Dollhouse" campaigns before the show even airs.

I'm watching season 1 on Hulu currently. I'm only through about the first 4 episodes, and have only chuckled once, and that was a modified "your mom" joke - the kind of joke I can't help but chuckle to. I really hope this series hits some sort of stride before I get entirely bored of it. Please convince me to continue watching. I need completion to get the full geek cred out of this - it's like an xbox achievement.

Oh god! The first season is really uneven, but if you motor through it I PROMISE it gets SOOOO much better!

  • FlankedFlanked August 2008

Alright, I just got through a quite humorous episode about eating Doyle's brain (guest starring the Fed from the FireFly pilot) and a time-warp Buffy guest star one off. Those two will buy enough credit with me to get to the second season whenever I can torr... er, purchase DVDs legally at my local retailer.

I'm purchasing DVDs legally at my local retailer right now and loving it...

  • Not+MandatoryNot Mandatory August 2008

God! I was forced to sell ALL of my Angel DVD's except for season 1 and I also sold my Buffy seasons 2 and 7 last year. Damn my lack of fiscal rsponsibility! I keep waiting for the box sets to go on MEGASALE somewhere...you know, when I actually have some money.

  • John+DarcJohn Darc August 2008

I really got into Angel in season 5, so my view is skewed. That being said, I liked what I've seen of Angel. Pylea wasn't bad.

  • MonkeyBearMonkeyBear August 2008

I always digged the Fred. Fred was made of amazing. Although she was more amazing as bad ass smart Fred.

And Darla did, does and always will rock hard core.

Fav episodes are defintaly "Spin The Bottle" and "Smile Time"
